Libarikian Interiors Designer Tip: Where Designers Shop for Vintage Furniture Online

Shopping for vintage furniture has turned into a huge passion of mine. Every new place I visit is an opportunity to uncover hidden gems (this is exactly why I always travel with an extra empty suitcase…you never know when you need to stash a lamp in your carry on).

In this post, I’m going to list my favorite *online* shops where you can score vintage furniture and decor items - it’s not as fun as traveling to a tiny little shop in the middle of Barcelona - but the thrill of the hunt is just the same.

The vintage chair and table lamp in this photo was sourced from Chairish.

I did hesitate at first writing this post - thinking I shouldn’t be telling you this because I want all the good stuff for myself (I mean, my projects.), but we’re paying it forward.

Invaluable

Invaluable is an online auction site, like LiveAuctioneers, that aggregates auctions from around the world into an easy to use app, where you can filter for specific things you are looking for. For me, I always filter for “chair”, because I have an obsession with old chairs..the older, the better.

My recent vintage purchase

I scored this unique french leather armchair on Invaluable - it needs to be refinished and reupholstered, but it has the most beautiful character.

My recent vintage purchase

This chair was falling apart when I got it…but that only made me love it more, not to mention what a steal it was. Just needs a little TLC and whole lot of vision to transform it into a showstopper.

Incollect

Incollect is my go-to place to find collectible vintage items. Many galleries on Incollect source the highest quality originals and they even have a showroom at 200 Lex on the 10th floor. This is a must-visit for serious design hunters.

My recent vintage purchase: This work by Adja Yunkers found it’s forever home at our client’s house. The vibrant yellow is such a beautiful pop of color in the space.

Scout Design Studio

Scout Design Studio has very interesting finds that are unique and have character. They can lacquer, stain, reupholster the pieces you find.

This vintage French burl wood sideboard with a marble top is a dream - use it under a fabulous mirror or a makeshift bar.

Casa Gusto

Everything Casa Gusto has in their online shop is full of character and is very unique. We especially love their woven frames and their beautifully curated selection of furniture.

Panoplie

Panoplie has a beautiful relaxed European aesthetic, and we love their vintage lighting collection. They thoughtfully mix both vintage mid-century designs alongside contemporary artisan-made pieces from around the globe. Panoplie’s assortment focuses on simple materials, sculptural forms, and pieces made with time and thought; favoring natural materials that embrace the imperfections. Shipping with them has been seamless, which is a bonus.

This French woven wicker lamp is from the 1960’s and has such an elegant and relaxed vibe.

Furnish Green

Furnish Green is a local NYC vintage shop, on 24th between 6th and 7th Ave, that has weekly updates to their inventory.

Ornate french mirrors make an instant statement in a room - size doesn’t matter actually. This one needs a new stain on the wood frame, but the shape is so fun.

Amsterdam Modern

Amsterdam Modern has a well curated online store for vintage furniture and decor - lots of interesting mid-century modern items on offer.

Chairish, Etsy & eBay: The Vintage Trinity

I group these three together because they offer variety, but quality can be a hit or miss, shipping is sometimes a nightmare, and things have arrived broken on numerous occasions. There are great finds and deals to be had, but buyer beware.

This amazing console table was a very fortunate Chairish.com find.

1st Dibs

You didn’t think I was going to leave this one out?! 1st Dibs is a constant source of great vintage and antique finds, and their customer service is great. You won’t find “deals” here, and much of the good stuff comes from Europe, so tack on those shipping costs…ouch.

The vintage Sergio & Giorgio Saporiti dining table in glass and concrete was sourced from Morentz Gallery on 1st Dibs.
